Won the Minister's Prize in the 8th National Transporation Data Utilization Contest (2019)

The contest was hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport to discover innovative mobility service models advantaging national transportation data

  • Shrinking cities due to urbanization and low fertility rate have caused travel demand between small, faraway cities to decrease every decade. This resulted in a vicious cycle between long-distance public transportation demand and quality.

  • My team proposed a nationwide carpooling service, "쉬었다 카", to supplement long-distance public transportation.

  • According to the national highway OD data, carpooling between two faraway cities was improbable because vehicles directly traveling between them were few. However, if just two vehicles can serve one customer by transferring at a highway service area, we found that there were more than 4~10 times the possibility. With this insight, we proposed a nationwide carpooling service with transfer at highway service areas.

  • The idea was awarded by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport for creativity, practicality, and excellent use of transportation data in the business model (1st Place).
